Adult Book Review (not “adult” in the way you are thinking) and other things you may not care much about…..

Today I woke up at around 7:30 am and let the dog out. Then I went back to sleep. Then I woke up, checked to make sure the dog was still alive and started reading Bossypants by Tina Fey. I finished it a while ago, between going to the Paxton Market (which is a convenience store, deli, liquor store and Post Office, though my husband and I are convinced this last part is a lie and use the one in the next town over) to get eggs and a Sunday paper (so I can clip coupons later, not so I can read up on important issues the world is currently facing) and cleaning the litter boxes, making a BLT sandwich, showering, making another BLT sandwich and putting in a load of laundry. And if you’ve lost track of where this sentence was going, Bossypants was GREAT. I was laughing out loud and sounded a bit crazy doing it, so you know it was good.

It was also nice to read a book for adults that was not about vampires, werewolves, or how to deal with difficult co-workers. (The latter of which seems great while you are reading it, but completely useless in real life when you are afraid you’ll be stabbed in your office and left for dead if you even attempt any of the suggested methods.)

As I will be 30 next month, I try to throw in a good, sarcastic adult book every now and then to keep me grounded in reality. Tina is honest to the point that gives you that fluttery, nauseous, cresting-the-top-of-the-old-carnival-roller-coaster-and-I-can-feel-my-food-digesting-TOO-quickly feeling, but then relaxed again because you remember that it’s Tina Fey, and she’s just awesome. I loved her before this book and I love her even more now after reading it. In fact, I’m pretty sure I have a crush on her.

There were several things on my “To Do” list today – I love making lists and checking off the things I did. In fact, I will sometimes add things I have ALREADY done, and then check them off just to make myself feel more productive. After this I will probably add “Read Tina Fey’s book in one day” (because my co-worker is reading it on her lunch breaks at work and I have to give it back tomorrow) and “write a review/random blog post about said book” and then check them off. Possibly I will also add “eat 2 BLT sandwiches” because it will sound better if it was something I was supposed to do.

What I probably should be doing is vacuuming up the black dog hair that is everywhere – including the bathroom ceiling, which I cannot even begin to explain.

Blogging is so weird. I feel like I am baring my soul in this exhibitionist way. Which is the point, I guess. Tina just did it. Except she had editors.

I would like to end with this quote from the book:

“Do your thing and don’t care if they like it.” ~ Tina Fey, Bossypants
