Please Ignore Vera Dietz by A.S. King
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Really amazing story. Voice, characters, plot, style – all of it just works and I could hardly put it down. Vera is such a strong, honest main character and her story is heartbreaking. You can feel everything she is going through. I loved getting the different character voices every now and then, including inanimate objects. Hearing from other characters made Vera a not-so-unreliable narrator and put things in perspective. I think this could go very wrong in other novels, but King gets it just right. Enough wit and humor to counteract the pain and raw truth. Definitely Printz-worthy.
