Here’s this year’s Teen Banned Books display. I used the same board from last year but updated the display books with quotes on the covers to show why they were banned or challenged. Also, I took some old books from the book sale room (ones that were headed for the dumpster anyways) and re-purposed them for the teen area. I will probably use them every year now, because the effect was pretty cool! (Also – the books spell out BANNED BOOK WEEK instead of BANNED BOOKS WEEK. – BOOKS was an odd number so I skipped the S. I think it’s still OK.)

And let me just say that the reasons for these bans or challenges are very silly, obviously. Especially the one for Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. The quote says it “glorifies premarital sex.” Um…..obviously someone didn’t read the book because it pretty much does THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE!  Grr.
